Blantyre City Mayor, Noel Chalamanda will at the end of this month launch the Keep Blantyre Clean and Green Campaign.
The campaign is aimed at regenerating the city of Blantyre to the most beautiful and clean city.
Under the initiative, the mayor intends to sensitise and mobilise residents of the city to respond to the need to clean up dirty places, making sure refuse is dumped in right places, planting trees and looking after flower gardens at their homes and institutions.
FaceofMalawi talking to the mayor during a press briefing revealed that the initiative will be launched by all of us. It will be a long campaign, but we have to rise in unison to condemn lack of hygiene.
Through the initiative, Chalamanda and his team intends to, among other things, engage institutions to own the streets where they operate to ensure they are smart and attractive.
He also said the exercise will see those who still keep their surroundings dirty and an eye sore being named and shamed publicly.
The initiative has since been endorsed by First Lady Gertrude Mutharika’s Beautify Malawi (Beam) Trust, pledging their support.
