The Anti-Corruption bureau (ACB) has nabbed former Peoples Party (PP) spokesperson Mr. Hophmally Makande in Lilongwe on charges of conspiracy to defraud government.
The ACB says Mr. Makande handed himself in when he heard that he was being hunted down.
The arrest is based on offences contrary to section 35 of the Corrupt Practices Act and in this case directly related to on-going investigations into the plunder of public funds dubbed Cash gate.
Mr. Makande’s arrests comes hot on the heels of the arrest of former Budget Director Mr. Paul Mphwiyo and the serving Director of the office of the director of Assets declaration of public officers Mr. Christopher Tukula over the Weekend.
The plundering of public funds dubbed Cashgate by the media which happened during the PP regime under Dr. Joyce Banda is the first of its kind in Malawi history.
