The newly appointed Assets Declaration Director Christopher Tukula who was arrested last Friday in connection to the plundering of public funds dubbed cashgate and Mphwiyo’s wife Thandizo were granted bail on Tuesday by Lilongwe Senior Resident Magistrate Paul Chiotcha.

The Ant-Corruption Bureau accused Tukula of interfering with witnesses in the on-going investigation to the looting public funds that happened during the era of People’s Party (PP) under Dr. Joyce Banda.

According to Tukula’s lawyer Ralph Kasambara, who is also among the people implicated in the scam, said the court has ordered his client to surrender his travel documents the court and report to it every fortnight.

Former budget director Paul Mphwiyo who was denied bail yesterday returns to court today to seek bail.

Meanwhile Mphwiyo has been charged with two counts of theft and money laundering amounting to MK4.2 billion.
