Blantyre Police are keeping in custody four men and have also recovered various items estimated to be worth K1.7 million believed to have been stolen in Chilobwe Township.

Speaking in an interview Blantyre Police publicist, Elizabeth Divala confirmed of the development revealing that the items were recovered after patrol police arrested James Banda, who hails from Tombondera village, Traditional Authority (T/A) Chapananga in Chikwawa district.

Banda is suspected to have been part of three men who attacked and robbed a Christopher Thipa in the area, said Divala.

The three suspects are said to have hit 41year-old Thipa with metal bars and robbed him of various items such certificates, a travelling bag, cell phone and a pair of shoes.

Divala said after questioning Banda revealed the identities of his accomplices and that he was also found in possession of a driving licence, ATM and medical insurance cards, which belonged to Kalokwete from Mpondasi village in eastern district of Mangochi.

The other suspects have been identified as 32 year-old Charlie Muyaya, from Mchiwa village, T/A Nkanda, Mulanje district, Elliot Kapinda of Binali village, T/A Malemia, Zomba and Trouble Martin from Kholongo village, T/A Ngabu, Chikwawa district.

A Samsung plasma screen, a home theatre, Telefunken DVD player, two LG super digital screens, two DVDs and JVC radio, were the things recovered among others.
