The son of Malawi’s Deputy High Commissioner to Kenya has been murdered.
Mr Dennis Chirwa, 25, was found dead near St Paul’s University, Limuru, on Saturday night.
The son of Brigadier-General Marcel Chirwa was a third year Communications student at the university.
Police Sunday said that Chirwa’s body was found at Manjiri Village in Tigoni with stab wounds. He had been stabbed seven times on the collarbone and stomach.
Witnesses said Mr Chirwa was last seen at a social place about a kilometre from the campus watching football with a friend. The two said they would hire a motorcycle to take them home. It could not be immediately established whether they hired the taxi as his colleague had not been traced by Sunday.
Mr Chirwa is the latest victim of insecurity in Limuru where at least three people have been killed and more than 10 injured in the recent past — a fact that prompted a security meeting.
The St Paul’s University Vice-Chancellor Joseph Galgalo said the student’s body was discovered Sunday morning by a resident, who reported the matter to the police.
“He was a victim of circumstances who met his demise in the hands of robbers,” Prof Galgalo, who led administrators in informing Mr Chirwa’s parents about the death, said.
IT IS PAINFUL
Police records show that on Thursday, another man was attacked in Limuru and his private parts chopped off.
Three Bata Shoe Company employees were also attacked and suffered serious injuries, resulting in the death of one of the victims.
County assembly representative Kamau Gachumi said: “It is painful to see the body of a young man lying here lifeless, two days after we held a security meeting here.”
