Sentencing of Victor Sithole who was found guilty of various charges related to the plundering of public funds at Capitol Hill dubbed cashgate failed to take place today following the appointment of his Lawyer Necton Mhura as Ambassador to the United States by President Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika.
The appointment of Mhura who heavily defended cashgate cuprites’ left Malawians puzzled.
Earlier this Month, Lilongwe Magistrate Court, Senior Resident Magistrate Patrick Chirwa found Sithole guilty of being found in possession of unexplained cash suspected to have been stolen amounting to K112 million , $31 800 (about K13.6 million) and R122 400 (about K4.5 million) in hard cash which was found at his house in Area 47 in September last year.
Chirwa adjourned the case to today for sentencing and for the defence team led by Mhura to provide submission of relevance in sentencing especially on money laundering charge.
Mhura has since been replaced by Ted Loka who has since asked for more time to scrutinize the cases leveled against his new client.
Meanwhile it is not yet known as to when the case will get back to court for sentencing.
The appointment of Mhura has also left the appear case of the first convict Triza Namathanga Senzani who was slapped three years by the High Court In Lilongwe in doom.
