Former Principle Secretary in the Ministry of Tourism Tressa Namathanga Senzani, the first convict in the plundering of public funds at Capitol Hill dubbed cashgate has withdrawn her bail application pending appeal against her sentence almost two weeks ago.

Sezani through her new lawyer Ted Roka confirmed of the development in an interview with one of the local media house in the country [Nation Newspaper].

“Yes, there is that development, but I cannot spell out the reasons to you. That is all I am prepared to say at the moment”, he said.

Ant-Corruption Bureau (ACB) Director Reyneck Matemba also confirmed the development.

Lilongwe High court Judge Ivy Kamanga on October 7 slapped Senzani three years and nine months imprisonment for theft and money laundering charges.

She pleaded guilty to stealing K63 million (about $158 000), which she later returned, but vowed to appeal against her sentences as she considered them too harsh.

The scam which is the first of its kind in Malawi history came to light when unknown thugs shot former budget director Mr. Paul Mphwiyo on September 13, 2013.
