Malawi’s first lady Madame Gertrude Hendrina Mutharika has hailed Bakhitha Primary School authorities in their unending contributions towards the development of children in Balaka district.

Madame Mutharika was on Wednesday officially openining Balaka Community Children’s Welfare Centre (BCCWC) at Bakhita Primary School.

In her opening statement madame mutharika commended Sisters at the school for promoting the education of the girl child saying; “This is an admirable initiative that the Sisters in conjunction with Plem Construction have taken to build this centre as it will enable children in the district to develop both mentally and physically; Mutharika noted.

The construction of the centre as a clear indication of the school’s support towards Governments’ development agenda, said Mutharika.

On the other hand Mother General for BCCWC Sister Julie Pereira said the center was aimed at promoting child care activities through physical, psychological and spiritual programs.

“The centre aspires to implant leadership skills, tolerance and interaction so at to enhance all round development,” explained Pereira.

District Commissioner for Balaka Lusizi Nhlane also praised the First Lady for her unending support to the school and other development activities in the district.

According to our reporters the facility includes a library, computer lab and a play centre.
