Shop assistants in the commercial capital Blantyre especially in Limbe on Monday morning staged demonstrations in protest of poor working conditions.
The protesters were also calling for improved wages.
The development comes barely weeks after the Government of Malawi effected new salaries to Civil Servants.
According to Chairperson of the workers, Joseph Jana, the shop assistants are demanding a 60 per cent pay hike which will see those getting 600 kwacha a day, as they agreed last year, getting 900 kwacha instead.
They are also looking for a 45 per cent pay increase for those getting more that K600 kwacha.
