Lilongwe Police are keeping in custody eight men for stealing 46 bags of bean seeds worth MK2, 800, 000 from Kanengo Farmers World.

Kanengo Police Public Relations Officer Sergeant Esther Mkwanda speaking to FaceofMalawi said the 46 bags, each bag weighing 50 Kilograms were packed in a vehicle, Toyota Dyna registration number MC 2878.

“The bags of beans were being ferried from Farmers World head office in Kanengo when the Police stopped and searched the vehicle to find the beans,” she said.

“The eight however, failed to establish the destination of the beans, hence the Police discovered that they were stolen,” revealed the officer.

The eight suspected to have committed the theft were the Farmers World staff, security supervisor, Sten Gomeza, 50; transporter, Anderson Masamba, 30; and five guards: Patrick Zondani 30, Benjamin Charles 21, Malango Hara 36, Wyson Benson Banda, 51, Tedi Sichone 29 and Kaphala Yesani 57, said Mkwanda.

The eight are soon expected to appear before court to answer charges of theft.
