A 11-year old boy is in Police custody in Lilongwe for allegedly murdering 12-year-old boy in Chisapo area in the capital.
Lilongwe police spokesperson Kingsly Dandaula confirmed of the development in an interview.
According to Dandaula, the suspect killed the decease after the two quarrelled over unpaid fritters sold by the deceased on Sunday.
“The deceased was selling the fritters some of which the 11 year old ate without paying money. A fight ensued regarding non-payment but some elders interfered and the matter was resolved,” he said.
Dandaula said few hours later the suspect re-appeared and stabbed the deceased in the chest with a knife.
The victim was pronounced dead upon arrival at Likuni Hospital.
“The development sparked commotion among residents in the area who after the burial of the deceased took the law into their own hands and set ablaze two houses belonging to the deceased family”, explained Dandaula.
Meanwhile Dandaula has advised people in the area to be calm.
