AN 18-YEAR-OLD BOY IS IN POLICE CUSTODY FOR OFFERING HIS BROTHER FOR SALE

Police in Balaka are keeping in custody a 18-year-old boy for allegedly offering his 10-year old brother for sale.

Balaka Police Station Operations Officer, Assistant Superintendent Gideon Chisale confirmed of the arrest and identified the suspect as Sole Sekani.

According to Chisale, the suspect approached an unnamed businessman in the district and offered to sell his little brother at MK1.9 million.

Chisale further said that the businessman convinced the teenager to come and seal the deal on the following day and in the process he also tipped the police who set a trap for the boy.

The development led to the arrest of Sekani who has been with a case of selling a child contrary to the Childcare Protection and Justice Act of 2010.

During interrogation, Sekani revealed that he decided to sale his brother to solve personal problems that he was going through.

Sekani comes from Phimbi village, Traditional Authority Nkaya in Balaka.
