Traders in Mzuzu City have denied entering the newly constructed market in the city citing that it’s constructed far away where customers won’t be able to reach them.

It was noted that the Mzuzu City Council constructed the market which was officially opened a few months ago to overcome fast increasing street vending in the city.

According to the council the newly constructed market is located behind CCAP Saint Andrews offices a few kilometres from Matabwa market.

The market has recently been a talking point for vendors in the city as they are adamant not to move.

FaceofMalawi speaking to one vendor (name withheld) revealed that all the vendors have agreed to remain where they are now and not to go the constructed market because the new facility is not constructed at a good business place.

FOM also speaking to one Mzuzu city council official who asked for anonymity said either way the council intentions of forcing the vendors into the new market because the people who might have funded the project would want to see the market in use.
