President Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika has assured journalists in the country that his government will continue promoting freedom of the press in the country.
Mutharika said this at Sanjika Palace in Blantyre on Tuesday during a presidential interface with the media.
“It is great to see and meet the faces behind the news. I must say here that I do enjoy reading your stories and hearing your reports.
“You Journalist you are my ears, my eyes, my legs and my hands. Without you, Government would not be on top of everything. No doubt you help keep me and government in check and in shape”, said Mutharika.
Mutharika also urged journalists in the country to be to be professional in discharging their duties.
“A reader, a viewer or a listener does not have to read all newspapers or listen to all radio stations or watch all TV stations in order to have a balanced news story.We can do better to give them better, fair and balanced news coverage”, said Mutharika.
On her part, Principal secretary in the Ministry of Information, Tourism and Culture Chimwemwe Banda urged the President to consider the enactment of the access to information bill which is currently gathering dust.
