A well known businessman Oswald Lutepo, the prime suspect in the plundering of public funds at Capitol Hill dubbed cashgate has pleaded guilty of stealing billions of Kwacha on radio and in the process has implicated former President Dr Joyce Banda.
Lutepo said this today through a privately owned radio (ZBS), saying he ask for forgiveness from Malawians.
In his speech Lutepo said he is ready to testify against former President.
“Malawians, forgive me, am really sorry. I have realised that my actions and that of other people have resulted in the suffering of innocent Malawians.
“I was only used but the money went to Joyce Banda. We agreed that my companies is going to be used to defraud the government”, said Lutepo.
The news comes barely a month after Government spokesperson Kondwani Nankhumwa asked those people who are connected to the looting of public funds at Capitol Hill to hand themselves to Police or the Ant-Corruption Bureau (ACB).
The looting of Public funds at Capitol Hill came to light in September last year when unknown thugs shot former budget director Paul Mphwiyo.
Since the issue came to light, only two cases involving Principal Secretary in the Ministry of Tourism Tressa Namathanga Senzani and Accountant Assistant into Government Victor sithole.
