Malawi Revenue Authority (MRA) in conjunction with the Ant-Corruption Bureau (ACB) have arrested former budget director Paul Mphwiyo together with businessman Shiraz Ferreira and retired Malawi Defence Force officer, Colonel Nleson Banda.

Malawi Police Spokesperson Rhoda Manjolo confirmed of the arrest in an interview but denied to give more details on the arrest.

According to one of the officials from (MRA) Steve Kapoloma, the three have been arrested on tax related issues.

This is the second arrest for Mphwiyo who is expected to appear in court to answer ‘cashgate’-related charges.

The shooting of Mphwiyo in September last year led to the revelations of the looting of public funds at Capitol Hill dubbed cashgate.
