Former ruling People’s Party (PP) has accused the ruling Democratic Progress Party (DPP) of conniving with Oswald Lutepo to implicate its founding leader Dr Joyce Banda in the on-going cashgate scandal.

PP spokesperson Ken Msonda said this on Sunday in an interview with the Press, saying the Party is surprised with Lutepo’s remarks.

“Mr. Lutepo is an angry, frustrated person who is under pressure by the DPP government to implicate Her Excellency Dr. Joyce Banda.

“Not long ago reports were all over in the media, saying Lutepo is being pressurized by the DPP regime to implicate Banda or else face arrest together with his family”, said Msonda.

“Now he has succumbed to the pressure”, added.

Reacting to the news, DPP’s spokesperson Francis Kasaila blasted the claims, saying the claims are baseless.

“Lutepo has never been at any point been in close contact with the DPP to implicate anyone”, said Katsaila.

Lutepo, the prime suspect in the plundering of public funds which saw money amounting to MK20 billion being siphoned told ZBS last Friday that he was just being used former Head of State in the whole saga.

The looting of public funds came to light in September last when unknown thugs shot former budget director Paul Mphwiyo in Lilongwe.
