The Director of Public Prosecution (DPP) Mary Kachale on Monday told Public Accounts Committee (PAC) of Parliament that Oswald Lutepo’s confession will not be used until he pleads guilty.

Lutepo told Zodiak Broadcasting Station (ZBS) on Friday that he was just being used by former President Dr. Joyce Banda to siphon public funds and that he did not benefit anything from the siphon money

Speaking before PAC, Kachale said her office cannot act on media reports.

“If Lutepo is really remorseful, he must go before a court of law and plead guilty. Yes, he can go ahead and say who else is involved. But in the meantime, we are just listening just like everybody else”, said Kachale.

Kachale added that the law states that the prosecution cannot use an accomplice in a crime against another person unless the other is not charged and can be used as a witness.

But Banda blasted the claims through a Press Statement, saying the allegations are false, malicious, defamatory and a calculated attempt by some desperate quarters to implicate her in the ‘cashgate’ scandal.

The Opposition People’s Party (PP) has also accused the President, Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika on conniving with Lutepo on the matter to implicates its founding leader.
