Opposition People’s Party (PP) has accused the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) administration under President Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika of being hypocritical in the way it is handling the MK92 billion cashgate reports.

Speaking in an interview with the Press, PP Spokesperson Ken Msonda said the delay in exposing the names of people implicated in the report clearly shows that the DPP regime is no serious in dealing with corruption in the country.

“The problem with government is that most of their royalists are part of the thieves who stole the money,” he said.

Msonda also accused Civil Society Organisations in the Country of not playing their role of pressuring the government to release the reports as soon as possible.

“It is disheartening to see civil society organisation being quiet on the matter, Malawians want to know who stole their money that is why PP is telling government to stop playing games; he said.

Germany-funded financial investigation—conducted by PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC) will expose ministries and departments behind the K92 billion heist between 2009 and 2012 as well as broader public finance malfeasance as it also covers the years up to 2014, according to sources close to the audit exercise.

According to unconfirmed reports speculating on the Social media indicates that some DPP bigwigs are implicated in the report.

Last week, Opposition MPs led by Legal Affairs Committee ChairPerson Peter Chakwantha threatened to shoot down the 2015/16 budget if the government does not table in the house the MK92 billion Cahgate report.

Reacting to the news, Minister of Finance and Economic Development Goodall Gondwe said he has not seen the report.

Meanwhile it is yet to be seen if the government will release the report as soon as possible as some quarters are demanding.
