As part of rebuilding process in redness to the 2019 general election, Malawi Congress Party (MCP) over the weekend went to the polls to elect new office bearers for its Southern Region Committee.

During the election which was held at Lunzu Community Hall in the commercial capital Blantyre where Peter Simbi was elected regional chairperson with 68 votes.

Simbi outclassed his four contenders on the post with Denis Namthumba, the vocalist in the Party emerging as runners up.

The elections also saw Samuel Kaphuka being elected as Deputy Regional Chairperson as Namthumba did not contest in any seat after being beaten by Simbi.

Speaking after the election, Simbi hailed the Party having a trust in him and he promised to discharged his duties professionally and help MCP to have more MPs in the Southern Region.
