Malawians now can have all the reason to smile following revelations that a new International Airline, Fastjet, has been given rights to start operating in the country starting from this month.

Fastjet, African low-cost Airline based in Dar es Salaam will be operating in the country twice in a week (on Mondays and Fridays) in the capital Lilongwe and Tanzania.

Tickets will go on sale today with flights due to start at an unspecified date in July.

Speaking to the press Fastjet chief executive, Ed Winter, said: “Whilst we are directing much of our efforts to prepare for the planned launch of the Fastjet Zimbabwe and Zambia airlines, we continue to work hard on growing our Tanzanian network.”

He added: “This significant step links two thriving commercial centres and provides the population of both countries with an affordable and reliable air services.”

According to Winter, the lowest fare will be $50.

“Our lowest international fare of $50, available to early bookers, is expected to ensure strong demand,” he said.
