Former Vice President in the first reign of Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) under late President Professor Bingu wa Mutharika, Dr. Cassim Chilumpha has finally formed his own political party.

According to Chilumpha the new party will be called People’s Assembly for Democracy and Development (PADD) and he is now the interim leader.

Chilumpha, a lawyer by professional and former Member of Parliament (MP) for Nkhotakota South started his political career in United Democratic Front (UDF).

In run up to 2005 general elections, Chilumpha was elected running mate to late Mutharika under UDF ticket.

Chilumpha and the late Mutharika fell out in 2005 after Mutharika dumped UDF and formed his own Party called DPP.

In 2012, Chilumpha dumped UDF and joined the then ruling People’s Party (PP) under Dr. Joyce Banda which he also dumped it after Banda appointed Sosten Gwengwe as her running mate.
