Information reaching FaceofMalawi indicates that angry mob has beaten to death prison escapee in the Northern district of Karonga.

Northern Region Police Spokesperson Sergeant Maurice Chapola confirmed of the development in an interview with one of the local media house in the country [ZBS] and identified the deceased as Levison Mhango.

According Chapola, the suspect who was serving a nine month jail sentence managed to beat security and escape but he was seen by fellow prisoners.

The Prisoners started running after him and later the prisoners were joined by villagers who apprehended him.

“Instead of taking him to Police, angry villagers took the law into their own hands by beating and left him half dead,” he said.

Mhango was rushed to Karonga district hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival.

Meanwhile no one has been arrested in connection to the incident.
