Two Chipinge men allegedly raped a granny (79) before fatally assaulting her last Tuesday morning.
Deputy Manicaland provincial police spokesperson, Assistant Inspector Luxson Chananda, said Lovemore Mlambo (19) and Josiah Simango (30), both of Chimene Village under Chief Musikavanhu allegedly went to Marambeni Sithole (79)’s house at around 4am with the intention of stealing maize.
“Simango knocked at the door and when Marambei opened it, he pushed the door and the old woman fell behind the door. Simango proceeded to kick Marambeni all over her body, while Mlambo kept guard,” he said.
It is alleged that while inside, Mlambo raped the senior citizen.
“Marambeni cried for help, but nobody could come to her rescue. After realising that she was bleeding profusely, the duo fled from the scene, but Simango mistakenly left Mlambo’s cell phone and took Marambeni’s which was similar to Mlambo’s.
“Her body was discovered by Samuel Sithole who had visited her. He found her dead and took the cell phone that was lying next to his sister’s body. After scrolling the phone, he figured out the phone belonged to Dakarai Mlambo, Lovemore’s brother. Dakarai was called and he confirmed that the line was his, but it was being used by Lovemore.
“The two proceeded to Lovemore’s place and identified Marambeni’s phone. Lovemore admitted that he had fatally assaulted Marambeni together with Simango. The two were arrested and are assisting the police with investigations,” said Asst Insp Chananda.
