A-25 year old man Anderson John from Ntchisi district has been sentenced to ten years imprisonment with hard labour for defiling a 16 year old girl.
The court in Malawi heard that John committed the crime on March 22 this year at Galangande Village when the victim had gone to the garden to chase some children who were damaging maize cobs.
The First Grade Magistrate Court further heard that when the victim was chasing the children, she came across the convict who he grabbed and forced her down.
The convict then took hold of the victim’s mouth and pulled her skirt up and undressed himself and later defiled her.
After the incident the convict left and the victim failed to run away because she has a leg problem. When the victim arrived home, she reported the matter to her parents who in turn reported it to a social worker who took the matter to police.
The convict pleaded guilty to the charge. First Grade Magistrate Dorothy Kalua, who presided over the case, said she handed John a stiff sentence to deter would-be offenders. John is from Chiweza Village in the area of Traditional Authority Chikho in Ntchisi
