As disagreement continues in the opposition People’s Party (PP) over the appointment of former Malawi’s Vice President as the Party interim President, PP Director of Social Affairs Steven Mwenye has resigned from his position.

Mwenye confirmed of the development in an interview with the state controlled radio (Malawi Broadcasting Corporation), saying he is no longer a PP member.

In his speech, Mwenye said he has resigned from the PP due to the leadership crisis currently rocking the Party whereby the Northern Region committee through its chairman Christopher Mzomela Ngwira has appointed Kachali as interim leader.

Mwenye accused of lacking direction, saying since the Party was booted out of power no one seems to be interested in leading the Party in the rebuilding process.

Effort to talk to PP Publicity Secretary Ken Msonda on the matter proved futile.
