A Police Officer from Malombe Police Station has been arrested in the Eastern District of Mangochi for allegedly lending a firearm to a poacher to use it for hunting at Liwonde National Park.
The arrest comes barely hours after Game rangers at Liwonde National Park arrested the poacher identified as Kadyenera Pofera and confiscating the firearm with eight rounds of ammunition.
When questioned how he obtained the firearm, Pofera implicated the Police officer thereby leading to his arrest.
Police in Mangochi have confirmed of the development in an interview with the Press and identified the suspect as Inspector Sign Chitsulo.
According to the Police, the suspect exchanged the firearm with meat from the poached wild life animals.
Meanwhile Police and Game rangers have launched a manhunt for another poacher, a colleague to Pofera who is currently at large.
