As disagreement continues in the opposition People’s Party (PP) over the appointment of former Malawi’s Vice President Khumbo Hastings Kachaili as interim leader replacing Dr. Joyce Banda, Information reaching FaceofMalawi indicates that some members of the southern region committee have come up with their own interim leaders.

Information at hand shows that the committee has chosen Sidik Mia and Blantyre based businessperson Caesar Fatchi.

Sidik Mia Resigned as PP vice president but some members want him back.

PP Spokesperson Ken Msonda confirmed of the development in an interview with the Press but denied to give more details on the matter.

“Those who don’t wish us well are just trying to bring confusion,” he said.

The leadership crisis locking PP comes following the disappearing of Banda who is currently in South Africa.

The immediate Past President left the country just after the May 20,2014 tripartite election which saw the then opposition Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) under President Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika emerging victorious.

Recently, the Party also saw bigwigs like Sosten gwengwe, Brown Mpinganjira, Harry Mkandawire and steven Mwenye resigning from the Party due to leadership crisis.

Meanwhile it is not known as to when Banda will return in the country.
