Management at the Polytechnic, a constituent college of the University of Malawi (UNIMA) has closed down the institution following protests students held on Wednesday over allowances.

According to a statement from the school’s management which FaceofMalawi have in possession says that all students must be out of the campus by 8 am on Thursday, August 13.

At the moment, members of the students union are reportedly in a meeting to map the way forward.

The Students staged the demonstrations to express their anger over government’s failure to release their monthly allowances and students loans.

Students were held chanting anti-Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) songs, saying President Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika instead of running the country is busy fighting with the immediate Past President Dr. Joyce Banda.

The demonstrations did not go very far as Police invaded the Polytechnic while firing teargas at the students.
