A 36 year old man on Monday drowned in a river after excessive drinking of local beer commonly known as kachasu in Lilongwe.

Lilongwe Police Station Public Relations Officer (PRO) Inspector Kingsley Dandaula said the deceased was coming from a drinking joint and fell off from a bridge due to staggering.

“It was around 10 pm when the deceased was on his way back home from a drinking joint within his area when he lost control upon reaching a bridge,” said Dandaula.

He said the matter was reported to Police and the body was taken to the Kamuzu Central Hospital where postmortem revealed that the death was due to injuries.

Police identified the deceased as Amosi Soliati from Chagwampwata village in the area of Traditional Authority Malili in Lilongwe-mana.
