Opposition Malawi Congress Party (MCP) has described the recent Cabinet reshuffle by President Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika as baseless as most of nonperforming Ministers have been returned.

Mutharika announced the Cabinet reshuffle on Monday evening dropping Minister of Local Government and Rural Development Tracizio Gowelo and Minister of Lands, Housing and Urban Development Paul Chibingu for no reasons.

The reshuffle also saw the then Minister of Health Dr. Jean Kalilani being moved to Ministry of Home Affairs and Internal Security and Minister of Information, Tourism and Culture Kondwani Nankhumwa being replaced by the then Deputy Minister of Defence Jappie mhango.

Commenting on the reshuffle, MCP’s Spokesperson Jessie Kabwila accused President Mutharika of failing the nation, saying the Cabinet will not change anything in the way the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) is governing the nation.

“The reshuffle clearly shows that the President has lost his direction. How can a health expert be moved to the security Ministry to fight corruption in the country? How is she going to do it,” wondered Kabwila.

Meanwhile law expert have described the cabinet reshuffle as a reducing damage measure taken by President Mutharika.
