Following the chaos that happened two weeks ago at Polytechnic, a constituent college of University of Malawi (UNIMA) leading to its closure by management, Information sourced by FaceofMalawi indicates that the Student Union (PSU) have issued apologetic statement to the concerned stakeholders.
On Wednesday August 12, students went on the street blocking the Chipembere High Way to express their anger over delay by government in releasing allowances and student’s loan.
The development saw Police officers firing teargas to disperse the angry students and the management the following morning retaliated by closing down the school.
In apologetic statement published in the Daily Times of August 24, PSU has condemned the act, saying the act is uncalled for and must not be tolerated.
“This act is backward, uncilvilized, uncalled for and PSU condemn it to the strongest terms.
The Polytechnic Students Union Council (PSU) believes in contact and dialogue and believes that misunderstanding that may arise can be resolved at a negotiation table rather than going to the street. The Council will take necessary measures to ensure that such situations are avoided in the near future,” reads in part the statement.
PSU says currently is working hand in hand with the college, University management and other stake holders to make sure that the college is reopened at earliest time possible.
The closure of the School did not go down with Education activist in the country, accusing the management of playing double standard on the matter.
