Reverend Alex Maulana has been re-elected as Blantyre Synod (CCAP) General Secretary in the polls that was marred by controversy as delegates could not reach a consensus on the voting procedure.

The election which started with a worship and Holy Communion service was held under the theme “proclaiming good news of peace through Jesus Christ Lord of all” taken from Acts 10 verse 36.

Maulana retained his position by outclassing his two contestants, Reverend Lazarus Kadango and Reverend Paul Mawaya by 210 votes.

Rev. Mawaya got 100 votes while Rev. Kadango got 34 votes.

The election also saw Reverend Rapson Chikwenzule reclaiming his seat as Synod’s Moderator with 225 votes against his challangers Reverend Mpate got 83, and Reverend Kutani got 23 votes.

Reverend Edna Navaya was declared as Vice Synod Moderator since there was no challenger.

Before the polls, Reverend Silas Ncozana and Macdonald Kadawati walked out of the meeting in protesting of the new voting system.

The two insisted that the synod should revert to the old way of voting and not according to the reviewed constitution which the Synod lawyer Meya Chisanga insisted should be used.
