Information sourced by FaceofMalawi indicates that the Malawi Polytechnic will be reopened on October 5, 2015 barely two months since it was indefinitely closed.

The University of Malawi (UNIMA) management closed the school after students went on the street protesting over delay by government in releasing their allowances.

In a memo from the college registrar, Margaret Longwe addressed to the staff members which FOM have in possession, says the University Council has approved the reopening date.

“I write to inform you that Council has approved College’s recommendation to reopen the college for its 2014/2015 academic year. The College shall reopen on Monday, 5th October 2015,” reads in part the statement.

The registrar also urged members of staff to prepare so that teaching begins on the reopening date.

Meanwhile Polytechnic students who spoke to FOM’s reporter have welcomed the move taken by UNIMA council.
