Well-known musician and United Democratic Front (UDF) Member of Parliament for Balaka North Lucius Banda on Friday performed at Tambala Night, a fundraising event organized by Malawi Congress Party (MCP) and he donated money amounting to MK50, 000.

Banda’s performance at the event comes amid rumours that he is pondering of joining the Party.

Banda, fondly known as ‘Soldier of the Poor’, recently made headlines when he refused to follow the Party’s move to relocate to government benches in Parliament.

In his speech, Banda described the move as totally betrayal to people who ushered them into power on May 20, 2014.

Reacting to the development, UDF spokesperson Ken Ndanga trashed Banda’s claims, saying the Party held consultation with people on the grassroots.

Speaking after the performance, Banda said people should not read too much to his performing at the Tambala Night.

The Tambala dinner and dance was held at Comesa Hall in the commercial capital Blantyre aiming at raising funds for the Party.

The guest of honour at the function was MCP’s President Dr. Lazarus Chakwera and Speaker of the National Assembly Richard Msowoya.
