The newly elected Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) Councilor for Luchenza ward Melia Likoswe Douglas has been elected as new Zomba City Mayor replacing late Joana Ntaja.

Ntaja died of Malaria early in March at Blantyre Adventist Hospital in the commercial capital Blantyre.

According to an eyewitness who confided to FaceofMalaw, Douglas worn the sit unopposed.

In May this year, the elections ended pre-maturely due to a tie of results between opposition People’s Party Councilor for Mpira ward, Christopher Jana and DPP’s Fadwick Lipenga of Ntiya ward.

They got four votes each and third contestant, DPP’s Councilor for Masongola Ward, James Mlekere got just one vote.
