Open Distance Learning (ODL) standard 4 teacher for Chanunkha Primary school is in Police custody for allegedly defiling and impregnating a 15 year old girl (name withheld).
Police officials confirmed of the development and identified the suspect as Mathews Nalimoni aged 22.
The arrest took place after the girl’s mother realized that her daughter was pregnant and took her to Mulanje district hospital for examination where results came out positive.
The mother then decided to report the issue to Mulanje police station after her daughter had explained who was responsible for the pregnancy.
The victim is a form three student at Njedza Community Day Secondary School in Mulanje.
Meanwhile Nalimoni will appear in court soon to answer defilement charges.
