Information sourced by FaceofMalawi indicates that Traditional Authority (T/A) Chapananga in the Southern District of Chikwawa has demoted Group Village Headman (GVH) Singano for allegedly attending Malawi Congress Party (MCP) rally on Saturday.
The rally which was graced by MCP President Dr. Lazarus Chakwera was held at Nchalo ground in the lower Shire.
T/A Chapananga confirmed of the development in an interview with one of the privately owned radio [Zodiak Broadcasting Station], saying Sangano have been replaced by Village Headman Nyampemba.
When asked as to why he has demoted the Chief, T/A Chapananga said the campaign period is over and every Chief across the country has to serve the government of the day.
On his part, GVH Sangano expressed shock on the matter.
Information at hand indicates the MCP’s rally was attended by over 20 Group Village Headmen headed by the demoted Chief.
Meanwhile law experts in the country have trashed the move, saying the demotion is political aiming at silencing chiefs in the country.
