As the shooting case of former Budget Director Paul Mphwiyo is set to resume next week, the High court in Lilongwe has said it will summon former President Dr. Joyce Banda and other high profiles to testify in the case.

The development follows the recent finger pointing in the case where one of the accused in the case, Pika Manondo named Banda and others as his witnesses and the observation made by Judge Michael Mtambo.

Judge Mtambo said evidence tendered in the court has proved beyond reasonable doubt against the accused [President Dr. Joyce Banda].

Confirming the development, assistant registrar of the High Court, Violet Chipawo, said on Wednesday the registrar would comply with the court’s order to issue the summons in time for the hearing next week.

“What I can say is that the registrar will comply with the judge’s orders that the witnesses be summoned when court reconvenes,” Chipawo was quoted as saying.

During the previous sitting, Manondo named Banda, politicians Friday Jumbe and Hophmally Makande and five others as his witness.

When approached for comment, Jumbe and Makande expressed shock over the development and they hinted that they will only appear in court if they are subpoenaed.

Meanwhile the case is set to resume on September 23 2015.
