A 24-year-old man is in Police custody in Kasungu for allegedly defiling a 16—year old girl (name withheld).
Kasungu Public Relations Officer, Inspector Edwin Kaunda confirmed of the development in an interview and identified the suspect as Dyson Chafukira.
According to Kaunda, on Wednesday September 14 this year parents of the girl (name withheld) reported to Kasungu Police that their daughter who was supposed to start form 3 at Chankhanga Community Day Secondary School was missing.
According to the parents, the girl went missing on the September 6.
“Having received the report we instituted investigations and discovered that the girl was at the house of Chafukira, whom we arrested on Tuesday, September 15,” Kunda said.
“After making the arrest, we took the girl to Kasungu District hospital for examination where it was discovered that she was a month pregnant,” the publicist said.
When police interrogated the girl, she revealed that she had been in a relationship with Chafukira for four months.
Furthermore, the girl said she fell in love with the man because her parents were poor and not capable of providing her with all she wanted.
Chafukira comes from Kaponda village, T/A Mwase in Kasungu and will appear in court soon to answer the charge of defilement. mana
