38 year-old Sambani Mtete has been sentenced to 10 years in jail for burglary and attempted rape.
Ntchisi First Grade Magistrate Court heard that on 21st August this year Mtete broke into the house of a woman whose identity has been withheld at Tchile village Traditional Authority Kasakula in the district
Police Prosecutor Sergeant Austin Daudi explained to the court that the convict also attempted to commit rape.
Mtete started sexually harassing the woman who was sleeping at the moment,until She woke up and started shouting for help, said Daudi.
The Police Prosecutor added that Mtete left behind his pair of trousers and a plastic bag because he had undressed in readiness for the act.
First Grade Magistrate Dorothy Kalua sentenced Mtete to 10 years imprisonment with hard labour. Mtete was found guilty of burglary and attempted rape which is contrary to Section 309 and Section 134 of the Penal Code respectively.
Sambani Mtete hails from Tchite village, Traditional Authority Kasakula in Ntchisi district.
