President Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika and the Country’s First Lady Madame Gertrude Mutharika have expressed shock over the untimely death of former Governor of Reserve Bank of Malawi Mr. Victor Mbewe.

Mbewe died on the wee hours of Thursday at Seventh Day Advents Hospital in the commercial capital Blantyre after a long illness.

In a statement released on Thursday signed by President Press Secretary Gerald Viola made available to FaceofMalawi, Mutharika said the country has lost a man of high integrity.

The President says Mr Mbewe will be greatly missed for his love and passion for Malawi. He was dedicated, obedient and patriotic for the development of Malawi. As a dedicated member of UDF, he demonstrated leadership skills that will be missed by all goodwill Malawians.

“The President and the First Lady are condoling the Mbewe family and have asked the Almighty God to be with the bereaved family during this trying moment,” reads in part in the statement.

Mr. Mbewe served as Chief Executive of Standard Bank before he was appointed RBM Governor by Late President.

Meanwhile late Mbewe will be laid to rest at Catholic Institute (CI) cemetery in Blantyre on Sunday
