The University of Malawi (UNIMA) will on October 10, this year celebrates its Golden Jubilee at an event to take place at the Kamuzu Stadium in Blantyre.

In a statement made available to the press released by the University, the celebrations would encompass five parades of graduated students since its inception in 1965.

“Cohorts of graduates shall march to the tune of the Police and Malawi Defence Force brass bands from the Blantyre Civic Centre to Kamuzu Stadium,” said the statement.

According to the statement, some activities marking the celebrations include presentation of honorary degrees, floats of scholarly exhibitions by students and lecturers and floats of UNIMA alumni symbolizing collaboration with society.

“Choral displays and traditional dances, poetry recitals and drama performances, a documentary cataloguing the life journey of the University of Malawi in its 50 years of existence, netball and football matches between UNIMA veterans and current students and launching of the UNIMA flag and the University of Malawi Anthem will also follow,” reads the statement.

To curtain-raise the climax of the UNIMA Golden Jubilee celebrations, an International Conference and Gala Ball is expected to take place at Hotel Victoria from 24th – 25th September while a Thought Leadership Dialogue will be held at Chancellor College from 30th – 1st October.

It is expected that President Professor Peter Mutharika who is also the Chancellor of the University of Malawi will grace the celebrations, according to the statement.mana
