Former Reserve Bank of Malawi (RBM) Governor late Victor Mbewe will be laid to rest on Sunday at Catholic Institute (CI) cemetery in Blantyre.

Mbewe, who was also United Democratic Front (UDF) director of Economic Affairs died on the wee hours of Thursday at Seventh Day Adventist Hospital in Blantyre after a long illness.

Commenting on the death of Mbewe, former President Dr. Bakili Muluzi said he is greatly shocked with the death.

“I am comforted by the memory of his long, full and inspiring life and so proud of his devotion to helping others as he sought to change the country for the better,” said Muluzi.

On his part, Indigenous Businesses Association of Malawi president Mike Mlombwa described the demise of Mbewe as a big blow to the business community in Malawi.

Mbewe was also chairman of Dorvic Hotel in Blantyre.

Late Mbewe is survived by a wife and Children.
