Police and Mzuzu City Council are yet to establish the cause of the fire that razed down Mzuzu City’s Vigwagwa market on Saturday night, destroying property worth millions.

This is the third time for Mzuzu market to be gutted down by the fire this year alone.

Speaking in an interview with the Press, the Councils Director of Parks and Recreation Goodwin Ponderani said currently they are assessing the value of the damaged property.

He also said the council is investigating the cause of the fire and it will soon issue a public statement.

But an eyewitness, who confided to FaceofMalawi said the fire is suspected to have been caused by a petrol bomb.

Meanwhile vendors have accused fire brigade of negligence on the matter, saying the reported at the scene very late.
