A 21-year-old man is in Police custody in Mzimba for allegedly being found in possession of a firearm without proper documents.
Police in Mzimba have confirmed of the development in an interview with the press and identified the suspect as Pasco Nyirenda.
It is alleged that, on the material day, police officers received a tip from well wishers that Nyirenda was keeping a riffle illegally.
“After conducting search, police found a Pistol gun which Nyirenda had no documents authorizing him to be in possession of it. The police arrested the suspect and charged him with the offence of Being Found in Possession of Firearm without Permit,” reads in part the Police statement.
Nyirenda will appear before court soon to answer the charge leveled against him.
He hails from Khura village, Traditional Authority Mtwalo in Mzimba district.
