An investigation to the fire incident that happened on Friday night consuming the whole Kasungu market has revealed that property worth MK1 billion was gutted down by the inferno.

The fire is said to have started at around 10.00 pm on Friday, destroying part of the market which is near the Kasungu Bus Depot.

According to the report made available to FaceofMalawi, Vendors totaling to 1200 have been affected by the fierce fire.

Kasungu Municipal Council Public Relations Officer Martin Kadyakapita confirmed of the development, saying the council is yet to establish the cause of the fire.

Unconfirmed reports suggest that an electrical fault in one of the shops caused the fire.

The fire razed down Shops, ranging from those that sell hardwares to those selling cosmetics, those running butcheries and restaurants.

Meanwhile vendors have appealed to government for immediate help.
