A 25-year-old man who is locally known for sleeping with women through magic (matsenga) was on Sunday night assaulted to death by an angry mob after he was found naked in a woman’s house in Nathenje in Lilongwe.
Lilongwe Police Station Public Relations Officer Inspector Kingsley Dandaula confirmed of the incident in an interview with press on Tuesday.
Dandaula identified the deceased as Levison Adisoni of Tsachiti village in the area of Traditional Authority Kalumba in the district.
“When the woman saw him she started screaming for help and members of the community came and apprehended him and took him to the village chief where he was seriously assaulted,” he said.
Dandaula said the matter was then reported to police who rushed to the scene and took Adisoni’s body to Kamuzu Central Hospital where he was pronounced dead upon arrival.
A post mortem revealed that death was due to suffocation and internal injuries.
Meanwhile, police have repeated calls on the general public not to take the law into their own hands saying only the courts are responsible for trial and sentencing of suspects. mana
