The CCAP Livingstonia Synod has urged President Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika to watch his tongue and control his emotions when addressing issues being raised by Malawians, saying his remarks has the potential of putting the country on fire.
The Synod Executive Director of Church and Society Moses Mkandawire sounded the warning during a press conference held in Mzuzu.
Mkandawire said Mutharika’s choice of words such as ‘stupid’, ‘nonsense’ and banging of the table during the Press conference while responding to growing criticism of his alleged bloated delegation to the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) leaves a lot to be desired.
“Use of words such as nonsense or stupid are very unfortunate and they should not come from a leader,” said Mkandawire.
Turning to leadership style, Mkandawire accused Mutharika of following his late brother Bingu wa Mutharika footsteps.
He said the country does not want to experience another July 20 2011 scenario when there are viable ways of addressing issues.
Mkandawire also accused government of being insensitive towards the suffering of Malawians, saying people are dying of hunger and lack of drugs.
Over the weekend Malawi Congress Party (MCP) spokesperson Jessie Kabwila took a swipe at Mutharika, saying the Party will not stop pressuring Mutharika on national issues.
The Party then gave Mutharika five days to release the names of those people who accompanied him on the trip and the sponsors.
Reacting to the claims, Presidential Press Office Gerald Viola accused MCP of being frustrated, saying the Party has no more grounds to give Mutharika five days.
