As calls for the resignation of President Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika continue to gather momentum, the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) has pressed a panic baton by indulging itself in a smear campaign.

According to information at hand, the National Intelligence Bureau (NIB) has prepared a report which has been delivered to Mutharika accusing Malawi Congress Party (MCP) leader ) and the People’s Party (PP) of conniving with some civil rights activists to oust Mutharika’s regime.

The report, dated October 16, 2015, sent to Mutharika and some senior cabinet ministers indicates that the opposition and the CSOs have received a total of K50 million to, among other strategies, organise anti-government demonstrations.

According to the report, MCP President Dr. Lazarus Chakwera has been given about K10 million, Dorothy Ngoma MK5 million, MacDonald Sembereka MK5 million, Martha Kwataine MK5 million and Bright Kampaundi MK5 million.

The report also implicate son to later Michael Sata, former President of Zambia, PP executive committee member Joseph Chikwemba,Brown Mpinganjira and Jeffrey Kachale, son to former President Dr. Joyce Banda.

The report further indicates that Hon. Uladi Mussa and Hon. Wakuda Kamanga have denied being part of this team and rejected the money.

Reacting to the report in an interview with Daily Times, MCP spokesperson Jessie Kabwira expressed shock over the report, saying the report is an insult to MCP.

“It is an insult to the Malawi Congress Party and the work we do to insinuate that we have decided to destabilise the country. CSOs have been working independently of the Malawi Congress Party. They can check our phones.

“We are just echoing what Malawians are saying. Our position on the UN trip and the sale of MSB [Malawi Savings Bank] is objective,” Kabwila was quoted as saying.

Meanwhile CSOs have also trashed the report.
